Musings On Religious Authority
Are the stars the eyes of the many gods or the many eyes of one god? We are supposedly made in God’s image, and yet we are supposedly made from the stuff the stars are made of. If so, doesn’t it make sense that we are the children of the sun – made in the image of god, our father and mother and creator? This gives weight to our ancestors who worshiped the sun god among others. Why should what we believe, without any more proof than our ancestors had, have greater value than what theirs did? It seems fit to take the experiences and beliefs of our earthly mothers and fathers as insight instead of as authority – a mistake too many people make when they read other people’s work; we should hear their words and take what wisdom their lives can give us, and not divide them as we see fit to our own personal purposes based on mundane, myopic preference or convenience.
