The GOP Hates Religious Freedom
There should be no mosque near Ground Zero in New York so long as there are no churches or synagogues in Saudi Arabia. The time for double standards that allow Islamists to behave aggressively toward us while they demand our weakness and submission is over.
Never mind the fact Saudi Arabia and the US are in excellent terms, one of the leaders of the Republican party who has a lot of support to run for the presidency in 2012 is basically making the argument that Muslims in the US should be restricted from doing what they wish to with property they might own. The place where the mosque is to exist is actually to be a community center, not some mega-mosque as the Glenn Becks and Sarah Palins of the world mistakenly argue, nor is it actually at Ground Zero (it’s several blocks away).
Just imagine if this was any other religion being ostracized by a political leader in the US. It’s not just one man, though; it’s an entire political party. The GOP, the supposedly party of the Constitution and liberty, is now the party of irresponsibly tough immigration policy, anti-gay rights, anti-social justice, and anti-religious freedom.
